Chemical Composition and Biological Evaluation of Algerian Propolis from Six Different Regions

Propolis is considered a natural resin produced by the bee and still used in folk medicine. Six propolis samples from Apis mellifera (P1-P6) collected different regions Algeria were investigated for their contents biological activities. The obtained results revealed that P1 exhibited highest total phenolics (210.93 mg GAE/g propolis), flavonoids (34.33 QE/g tannins (23.36 CE/g propolis). For antioxidant activities, showed strong free radical scavenging activity with EC50 values of 0.055, 0.0306, 0.109 0.071 mg/mL, respectively DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, phosphomolybdenum assays. On other hand, all demonstrated antibacterial activities against G+ve bacteria (S. aureus) slightly higher associated P5 (9.83 10.92mm, respectively). lowest MIC MBC S. aureus 62.5 125 µg/ml, respectively. Furthermore, had moderate to low antimicrobial C. albicans (yeast) P6 (13.33 8.50 mm, Chemical profiling most bioactive (P1, P4, P5) using HPLC‑fingerprint analysis mainly led detecting phenolic acids variable percentages.
